Runkind began with a belief I learned in a college class called How Change Happens:real change starts with ordinary people deciding to act.
When I transferred to community college, that lesson became real. I watched friends and classmates—people who once loved track—drift away from the sport, not because their passion faded, but because their schools couldn’t support the programs anymore. Budgets were cut. Equipment disappeared. Access to athletics shrank. A sport that had always brought me joy, community, discipline, and identity was becoming harder for others to experience.
At the same time, I saw how movement and physical activity were becoming less of a priority in everyday life, especially in schools with limited resources. I wanted to do more than just talk about “healthy lifestyles” in theory—I wanted to help create environments where they were possible. Running is one of the most accessible paths to health and self-growth, and I didn’t want that door closed for the next generation.
So Runkind was created with two goals:to expand access to track and running programs in historically underfunded schools, and to show that anyone—not just institutions, athletes, or people with influence—can become a change agent in their own community.
You don’t need a title to make change. You don’t need permission. You just need to care enough to start.
Runkind is how I started. And we’re building a movement where others can start too.
